Scholar, Influencer, Changemaker. These descriptors only begin to capture the recipient of the prestigious 25 for 25 Spotlight Award, Trinity A. Williams. Her influence extends far beyond this institution’s gates and speaks volumes to her hard work, dedication, and multifaceted contributions to Spelman College. Trinity is a leader who exemplifies what it means to pave the way and cultivate spaces for the wellbeing of young girls and women everywhere.
Trinity is a graduating senior, majoring in Comparative Women’s Studies on the pre-nursing track. To integrate her current work and accomplishments with her future aspirations, Trinity intends to pursue a future in which her academic and creative passions can intertwine. After graduation, she plans to leverage her creative talents and her eye for marketing to continue being a positive influence through her platform on social media as a content creator. Simultaneously, she intends to pursue a master’s degree in nursing, to make her dream of becoming a delivery nurse and opening her own practice, a reality. With this dream in mind, she wants to continue using her platform, along with her medical knowledge to, as she puts it, “…educate, serve, and uplift women–combining service, storytelling, and science…” with a focus on Black maternal health and wellness. When asked about the legacy that Trinity hopes to leave at Spelman, and how she wants to be remembered by future Spelmanites, she says that she wants to be remembered for her service. Her ability to stay true to herself while rising to the occasion to support others who needed their voices heard. As an avid advocate for young girls and women, she wants future Spelmanites to be confident in themselves. Spelmanites can take on diverse roles and create their own paths to success while also remaining firm in their authenticity. From her personal experience, Trinity emphasizes that “you don’t have to wait to be great; [because] you already are.”
The legacy that Trinity hopes to leave at Spelman College is one that can currently be acknowledged since her journey at this institution began. Trinity’s impact is strongly felt amongst her Spelman Sisters. One student who was touched by Trinity’s influence states this with confidence: “Through her work, Trinity has inspired a culture of self-care, perseverance, and excellence, encouraging those around her to pursue their dreams with confidence and passion.” This powerfully demonstrates how Trinity has already established her legacy within Spelman (and beyond it) as a beacon of light, affirming to young women that they are not alone in their experiences. Beyond her external impact, Trinity acknowledges the personal obstacles she has faced: “I also battled self-doubt and comparison, especially in a space where numbers and trends can feel overwhelming.” But with these challenges, she re-emphasizes the importance of how self-love and authenticity are essential for one’s personal growth. And through her experiences and her own growth, Trinity’s main advice to young women with the same passion for change and advocacy, is to recognize how powerful each woman’s voice is, and to not let fear or doubt quench one’s passion to make a positive impact. Trinity’s journey at Spelman helped her to grow into the woman she is today. And as she makes the transition from Spelmanite to Spelman Woman, she reflects on her journey by saying this:“I am forever grateful for this community, and I am excited to continue carrying Spelman’s legacy of excellence, service, and sisterhood wherever life takes me.”
